Open multiple documents in Microsoft Office simultaneously

Hi, suddenly the tabs don't show anymore in Word, but they do in Excel, PPT etc. In Word, the button Show Tab Bar is selected (green tick), but no tabs show. Any idea what's gone wrong?

How can I open multiple instances of Word and open groups separately? All my documents open in one window. I would like to keep groups separate - thanks
